Reporting to the Director of Project Management, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and project management of our mechanical design/build jobs and serve as a key advisor to leadership. We have previously outsourced design/build activities and have decided to bring that capability in house. You will lead that effort, managing external resources and driving a smooth transition.

You'll work closely with estimators and with field operations to assure seamless communication throughout the life of the project with no "gray areas" regarding who has which responsibilities. We'll look to you to create an environment that fosters a mindset focused on profitable growth through Lean Construction processes.

A sampling of your responsibilities:
  • Assuming ultimate responsibility for designing and completing design/build projects on schedule and on budget while meeting the customers’ quality and contractual requirements.
  • Leading and performing all aspects of the HVAC mechanical design/build process. Quick question for you - click here
  • Working closely with our estimators to assure jobs are properly bid and budgeted.
  • Project-managing your own design/build projects.
  • Supporting AMSI's goal of being able to be the first subcontractor on the job and executing the contract as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Leading internal pre-construction kickoff meetings in coordination with estimators and field operations following the company’s standard agenda.
  • And more.
AMSI specializes in mechanical construction contracts in the $3 million to $20 million range, as well as the tenant renovation market, involving variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, which are our specialty, as well as conventional HVAC systems. We frequently have plumbers, insulators and other subcontractors reporting to us. Projects are typically high-rise office and high-rise multi-family.

Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.

Your design engineering expertise will be essential, but just as important will be your leadership and interpersonal skills. You'll need to develop a solid, positive rapport with our outsourced partner -- you'll manage that relationship and ensure they deliver to expectations, but you also should ensure ongoing collaboration, even as you build the internal function. You also should establish relationships as with internal contacts in estimating, project management and other areas. For example, you'll interact regularly with our BIM Specialist.

We realize that there will be a learning curve as you come on board, but we'll also expect you to leverage your experience and expertise to start making contributions right away. The pace is fast and stress can run high at times. Those who thrive at AMSI are cool-headed and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities. While you'll "own" and articulate the mechanical design engineering big picture, you also should pay attention to details.
