To be a good fit for the Plant Manager - Mechanical Prefabrication opportunity, you will have:
  • A bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, production management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of fabrication shop experience, preferably sheet metal, with at least 2 years at a senior management level. Quick question for you - click here
  • A hands-on, numbers-driven "plan the work, work the plan" mindset.
  • Demonstrated skills at improving material flow, and planning and managing work (including "hot" jobs) efficiently.
  • An understanding of HVAC ventilation fabrication as well as installation requirements is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with SMACNA standards, Lean Manufacturing and building information modeling (BIM) are all big pluses.
Just as important will be the following competencies and characteristics:
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to establish credibility with sheet metal foremen and tradesmen.
  • Demonstrated management and organizational skills.

Reporting to the President, you will oversee a team that includes a Shop Foreman, Inputter, delivery crew, and production and warehouse staff. You'll have overall responsibility to achieve the mission of delivering sheet metal subassemblies to AMSI jobsites on schedule while meeting all customer specifications and quality requirements at the lowest possible cost. This will include interfacing with Project Managers and Field Superintendents.

You'll also be responsible for implementing Operational Excellence/Lean Manufacturing in the plant through effective planning, production scheduling, efficient fabrication methods and supply chain management. In addition, you'll have ultimate responsibility for providing sheet metal subassemblies to AMSI jobsites on schedule while meeting all AMSI quality requirements at costs substantially lower than purchasing equivalent subassemblies from 3rd parties.

A sampling of your responsibilities:
  • Determining the most efficient plant layout, operating processes and supply chain management techniques to meet objectives.
  • Recommending economically sound capital equipment changes.
  • Maintaining staffing required to meet production requirements.
  • Managing approved budgets to meet the plant’s organization objective to be the lowest-cost/highest quality sheet metal plant in the market area we serve.
  • Implementing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) of safety, quality, delivery, cost and growth, and communicating those KPIs throughout the plant.
  • Enforcing the use of Lean problem-solving techniques to continually improve KPI performance.
  • Creating a culture of safety by maintaining compliance with AMSI safety and risk management practices and policies.
